FINAL GARMENT IMAGES COMING SOON...
My consumer for this line is a performer and rap artist who is collaborating with a brand to make his own streetwear line. He is based in New York City but is constantly traveling and is looking to make wearable garments with visual impact.
My concept is combining the geometric shapes and lines of the De Stijl movement in architecture with the idea of double exposure using two of the primary colors, red and blue, which also appear in this Dutch art movement.
As a luxury streetwear brand, for price-point and quality, Supreme and Balenciaga are my main competitors with this line. A-COLD-WALL and KITH are up-and-coming brands that I will be competing with in sales.
My textile exploration for this project was block printing on fabric. I carved an image of a dragonfly wing into a linoleum block and made a test print before taking it to the press. To get the effect of a double exposure, I first printed the blue and then the red over the top slightly out of line.
Flats of the garments created in Adobe Illustrator. Designs include a quilted pullover with zippered sleeves, buckle pants, a wrap jacket, and over-emphasized joggers.
As I have never constructed menswear before, I started with blocks and then structured the pattern around those.
